THESE DYING DECADES

THESE DYING DECADES

What are you dying of?
is the unspoken thought

during these dying decades; many think
of breast cancer, AIDS, Alzheimers,
incurable (yet uncured) pandemics, all

unspeakable thoughts, read in the a.m. paper
by lunch become 'the known cause of death.’

At lunch I was told: "as a 70yr old man, you
already have testicular cancer"; already well
aware of it, I try not to think about it often,

but it seems you can't escape dying
as subject anymore; instead, try

thinking yourself out of suffering.

NO DRAFT, NO WAR, Just Peace

NO DRAFT, NO WAR, Just Peace

One of my uncles, a submariner,
another, a bomber waist-gunner,
another, an OSS assassin in Poland,
another, a mountain ski-trooper
killed in the Italian alps; his widow,
a WAVE, married to an Army cook,
none of them ever marked me for war
except my father, rejected by the army:
for wearing glasses, for being married,
for having a child (me), incredulous that
I wouldn’t accept the Vietnam War draft:
“You’re a citizen! You have to!” He'd never
learn I beat the army draft by checking-off
“covert homosexual" (hidden in its long list of
debilities) during my pre-induction physical.

How can we deflate war's delusions?
No draft. No war. Just Peace.

British WW1 soldier-poets saw war was horrific for the troops & delusional for the homefront. It is again. It always was.

TINNITIS

TINNITIS @ 70

I hear high whistling in my ears as
I turn 70. My HMO audiologist says
not to obsess about it, so I'm trying

not to, but it's steadily buzzing, :

there, whereever there is, buzzing
like a fluorescent-fixture ballast. Will
it buzz temporarily, or indefinitely.?

M@ttered

As our World ended, I wound an old watch
or thought I did, unsure what time it was,
or what time-zone I was in, as if
.
Time & Matter didn't matter; anybody
blame Higgs' Boson, or Harold Camping
for our no longer winding watches?

the JESUS-app.

THE JESUS-app.

How deeply is the Jesus-app.
embedded if, when, & once
you’ve been raised a Christian?

The Roman Catholic church
has always held that baptism
leaves an indelible mark.

Is long/wet exposure as deep
as earnest conversion?

'Supermoon' g@zing

Like a Moon devotee, I sat outdoors last nite outside Dr. Ginny's 'semi-detached 'cottage' here in Santa Clara watching it from 8:30-9:30+pm PST with Ginny & Tom Friedrich, wrapped in blankets, sharing a small S.F.-style sourdough bread boule

MITT MOCKS "FORWARD"

MITT MOCKS “FORWARD”
PONDERS “PROGRESS”
(AP - newspoem)

Speaking to a group of high-dollar
donors @ Arlington VA’s Ritz-Carlton,
Mitt poked fun at President Obama's
newly-unveiled campaign slogan:

"Forward" -  "Forward, what?
over the cliff?" Mitt muddled
Obama’s campaign slogan:
"His new slogan is: Progress?

No, forward. Forward! That's it!
Progress would be better; I might
even use that one myself, actually.”

Donors paid $2,500 - $10,000
depending on access wanted.

This is the first the Romney campaign
allowed any kind of access to the media:

2 print-pool reporters were allowed inside
on behalf of all national print journalists,

but only to hear Romney's remarks
at the general reception, not
several smaller meetings.
