The day JFK was assasinated, I was living in a rooming-house on the Charles Circle end of Boston's Beacon Hill. As I descended from my 3rd-floor room, I heard the loud radio of Reggie, (a waiter who lived on the 2nd-floor), thru his closed door,
reporting what had just happened in Dallas TX, thinking: “Now
the squabble begins...” assuming Washington D.C. politics was then what
it is now, but it proved constitutional:
the Vice President took the oath of office; under him (LBJ) the Great Society eventually began...& by 1968, I was working for it as a public information
assistant
in the Cambridge MA Model Cities program.
